Baby Gyms
Baby gyms should provide a safe, engaging environment for babies to play in while you cook, clean, care for other children, or take a much needed break. While they can start using the gym from day 1, most babies will get most enjoyment out of it from ages 3 to 9 months. Gyms are also a great place for tummy time. Here’s what we look for in a Baby gym:
Gym options include plush toys, rattles, electronic noise and light, mirrors, bright colors, soft books, etc. Finding the right fit for your baby means making the decision on what you value in a toy. Look for additions that are easy for your baby to reach, while still encouraging reaching, grabbing and rolling.
As with all baby products, baby gyms with small pieces, long cords, batteries, and magnets can be hazardous, as they pose choking risks. Babies should be monitored, even when playing independently. Additionally, some babies are strong enough to topple certain play gyms. Please make sure you are using them as directed by the manufacturer.
To get the most out of your money, you want to find a durable baby gym. Because they are designed to be pulled and grabbed at, check to see if the connectors are made with plastic or fabric. Plastic connectors are more likely to weaken and break over time, and can not be easily repaired. Look for machine washable bases and plus toys.
