Teethers
Eventually, every baby will go through the painful process of teething. Thankfully, there are many teether options out there to help you ease your baby’s pain. Here’s what we look for in a teether:
Most teethers on the market now are made of silicon. Silicon is a safe choice for your baby. Food grade silicon is BPA and PVC free, and made from a non-toxic material. You can also find wooden and plastic teethers. If you go with one of these options, make sure they do not splinter or break and are made from quality materials not treated with harmful chemicals. Beads are not a safe option for teething babies.
Teethers also come in many different sizes, shapes, and textures. Rings and handles are easiest for babies to grasp and bring to their mouth. Textures like bumps or ridges can offer additional soothing effects for babies. Try to find a teether with a variety of textures.
Babies put everything in their mouths, teethers especially. It is vital that you choose one that can be properly cleaned. Hollow teether, or those with hard to reach areas are not appropriate, and will grow mold. Look for teethers that can be easily wiped downs, washed with soapy water, or better yet, be put into a bottle sanitizer or dishwasher.
